Apple’s “budget” iPhone might be about to get very un-budget, and I’m here for it

If you thought Apple’s “e” iPhone line was going to stay chill and predictable, hi, welcome to the chaos.

According to a new report, Apple is gearing up to launch the iPhone 17e, and it sounds like the nicest “affordable” iPhone energy we’ve seen in a while.

The headline upgrades are juicy, an A19 chip (yep, the iPhone 17 family-level brain), MagSafe (finally), and more of Apple’s in-house cellular tech showing up under the hood.

And the best part, they apparently want to keep it at $599. In this economy. Apple, are you feeling okay, do you need a glass of water?

Also, it’s not just iPhone tea. The same report hints that Apple’s lining up updated iPads too, like a base iPad jumping to an A18 so it can run Apple Intelligence, and an iPad Air that could go M4 plus OLED. If that happens, the iPad Air officially becomes the “why is this so good” tablet again.

Then there’s Mac stuff hovering in the background, spec-bumped MacBook Pros, and a MacBook Air with an M5 processor. I do not need it. I absolutely want it.

My take, if Apple can actually ship an iPhone 17e with MagSafe, modern flagship-adjacent performance, and keep that price steady, it’s going to be the sneaky best iPhone recommendation for a lot of people. Especially anyone who just wants a fast iPhone that does iPhone things, without paying Pro Max rent.
