yo so Apple just dropped some actually fun news and not in a boring spreadsheet way. They said Sid Meier’s Civilization VII is coming to Apple Arcade on February 5 and like, that is a crazy pull for a subscription that’s usually more “cute mobile games” vibes
Basically Civilization is that game where you start with basically a stick and a dream and then 3 hours later your brain is melted because you’re arguing with yourself about building a library vs starting a war. And now Apple’s putting Civilization VII Arcade Edition on iPhone iPad and Mac, so you can be out in public pretending your doing something productive when your really just trying to take over the world
And it’s not just Civ. Apple also said there’s this game called Retrocade coming the same day, and it’s made for Apple Vision Pro too. It’s like, you’re standing in a virtual arcade playing old school games like Asteroids and Galaga which is honestly such a perfect use of the headset. Like if your gonna wear a computer on your face at least let it feel like a neon arcade dream
Also two more games are coming with it, Felicity’s Door which is a rhythm game, and I Love Hue Too+ which is a puzzle game where you sort colors into satisfying gradients. Not even kidding those color games are weirdly addicting, your like “one more level” and then it’s 1am
My quick take: Apple Arcade is at its best when it gets real games and not just random filler, and Civilization is definitely a real one. If you already pay for Apple One or you’ve got Arcade anyway, February 5 is gonna be a good day. If you don’t, this is the kinda thing that could actually make you sign up, like ok Apple I see you
