Ok smart home friends, Apple just slid a very un-fun calendar invite onto our February: if you’re still running the older Apple Home architecture, support ends February 10, 2026.
And yes, this is one of those “you can ignore it until you can’t” situations. Apple’s warning is pretty direct: don’t update and you might get your Home app access blocked, plus accessories and automations could start misbehaving. The kind of chaos where your lights ignore you, and your smart lock suddenly develops free will.
The good news is the fix is simple. Open the Home app, hop into Home Settings, then Software Update, and hit Update Now. It’s basically the smart home equivalent of “have you tried turning it off and on again,” except it actually matters.
My take, if you’re like me and your home runs on a bunch of routines, scenes, and “hey Siri, movie time,” do the upgrade before the deadline sneaks up. Nothing ruins a cozy night faster than your HomePod pretending it’s not the hub anymore.
