Apple has laid off 100 people, most of whom worked in the Apple Books and News divisions, Bloomberg reports.
Although this is a small layoff by the standards of other IT companies, it is notable because Tim Cook had stated that layoffs are a last resort for the company.
According to the report, Apple Books will be a less prioritized direction for the company in the future. The service is not seen as a means of revenue growth.
Apple News currently generates much more money thanks to its News+ subscription to well-known magazines.
This is already the fourth known round of layoffs at Apple in 2024. Previously, the company shut down its electric vehicle project, halted the development of microLED screens, and cut jobs in the AI sector as part of a reorganization. [Bloomberg]”
