Okay, Apple friends, the rumor machine just served up a piping hot plate of “what on earth are they building over there?”
According to a new report, Apple is apparently working on AI-powered smart glasses, plus a tiny wearable pendant thing, plus AirPods that may have cameras. I know, that last part sounds like a joke someone would make on a podcast, but here we are.
The smart glasses idea sounds like Apple’s version of “Siri, use your eyes.” The report says they could have cameras, mics, and speakers, then lean on AI to understand what you’re looking at and help you out in the moment. No display is mentioned, which honestly feels very Apple, make it useful first, then make it pretty later.
Then there’s the AI pendant concept, basically a small always-on wearable you could clip on or wear like a necklace, with the iPhone doing most of the heavy lifting. It’s giving “AirTag’s mysterious older sibling who reads your surroundings and judges your life choices,” but in a helpful way.
And camera AirPods, if this happens, it’s going to be the most chaotic dinner conversation starter ever. The idea is that low-res cameras could feed visual context into Apple’s AI features, so you get smarter interactions without pulling your phone out every five seconds.
My take, Apple’s finally leaning into ambient computing, the kind of tech that helps without making you feel like you’re carrying a backpack full of gadgets. If they can do this with Apple-level privacy and not make everyone look like a tech extra in a sci-fi movie, I’m listening.
Also, if these glasses ever launch, please, Apple, do not make me choose between “cool frames” and “frames that cost as much as a MacBook.” Let me dream.
