New iPhone 17 Pro owners are hearing spooky static while charging, and yes, it’s as annoying as it sounds

So you just got an iPhone 17 Pro, you plug it in to charge, and suddenly your phone starts doing its best “old radio in a haunted house” impression.

Yeah, there are now a bunch of iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max owners saying they’re hearing a static, hissing, or crackling sound from the speakers while the phone is charging.

What makes it extra frustrating is it does not sound like a one charger problem. People are reporting it with Apple’s own chargers, third-party chargers, and even MagSafe, although MagSafe seems quieter for some.

The weirdest part, at least to me, is how subtle it can be. Some folks only notice it when they turn volume down during playback, and others swear they can hear it even when nothing is playing.

Before you sprint to the store, a few people have apparently swapped phones and still hit the same issue. That usually screams “software bug” or “common hardware quirk,” not “your unit is cursed.”

The good news is at least one user says Apple support has forwarded it to engineers. So hopefully we get a proper fix, and not a future support doc that politely suggests we all stop listening so hard.
