The MacBook Air has been improved at WWDC 2013, but either the MacBook Pro nor the MacBook Pro with Retina Display were mentioned at the keynote, which raises the question, Will they receive bigger updates than they would have gotten at WWDC at a dedicated MacBook event? Could they, at this yet-mentioned event, replace the regular MacBook Pros with Retina Display ends, thus ending a 5 year era? Time can only tell. Now, let’s discuss the notebook they did update, the MacBook Air.
The main improvement in the 2013 MacBook Air update is the 12-hour battery life, extended by the new “Intel fourth-generation I-series CPUs”, also known as Haswell chips; these also allow for improved HD 5000 graphics. The Haswell chips allow for less power consumption but still allow for higher performance. The new Intel HD 5000 graphics will provide up to 40 percent faster graphics than the HD 4000 in the previous generation. In addition to these advancements, the new Air has 802.11ac Wi-Fi, which offers faster connectivity and bandwidth. This new Wi-Fi is three times faster than 802.11n networking. The battery on both the 11 inch and 13 inch MacBook Airs is probably the most improved. The 11 inch MBA now has 9 hours battery life instead of the previous 5 hours and the 13 inch now has 12 hours battery life instead of 9. The 11 inch still costs the same but the storage now starts at 128 GB. The 13 inch starts at $100 less than last year’s model, now $1099. In summary, the new MacBook Air update comes with longer battery life, faster flash memory, better graphics, and better speakers and webcam.
